What I like to draw upon the most from DBT is the concept of the three minds: Emotional, Rational, and Wise. Our emotional and rational minds are often at odds with each other and we can be torn between living our emotions or burying them to logic. Allowing our emotions to run wild leads to poor decisions and difficult relationships. Running our lives just based upon reason and facts just buries our emotions and results in them growing in intensity until they explode. Learning to accept both logic and emotion results in our wise mind being in control and can help us learn to deal with the negative.
