FAQ

The most important part of therapy is a good therapeutic relationship between the patient and therapist. Therefore, all prospective patients can book a no charge 15-minute virtual consultation with one of our therapists. Often after a consultation, a prospective patient is able to determine their comfort levels with their therapist. Consultations can be done on their own or combined with an initial session.

For sure! Not everybody is able or comfortable to do an initial consultation online. If a phone call best meets your needs, then we are happy to talk over the phone.

All of our therapists, including graduate students doing their internships, are already licensed by their respective regulatory bodies (Colleges). This ensures that they are held to the highest standards for professionalism and ethics.

A Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) is a licensed therapist who is in the initial stage of their professional designation. They are supervised by a senior therapist and hold their own professional liability insurance. Click here to learn more.

The therapists at Health & Happiness: Counselling and Wellness see children starting at age 4 for play therapy and ages 7+ for more traditional talk therapy. We also work with youths, adolescents, teens, adults, couples, parents, and families.

While patients are often referred by a psychologist or family doctor, referrals are not required. A formal assessment or diagnosis is also not required prior to starting treatment.

As long as it aids the therapeutic process, then absolutely! Sitting and talking works well for some, but others may be more visual or prefer tactile engagement. Each of our therapy rooms is equipped with a wall-mounted 4K smart TV and a whiteboard, which are frequently utilized during sessions.

Therapy can work when a person has decided that they want to feel different. When a person of any age is unable to express their goals, a therapist can help them determine what happiness means for them.

Therapy is most successful when the patient is motivated for change, and we are here to help.

In your first session, when informed consent (CRPO Standard 3.2) is reviewed, the full details around how your privacy is protected will be discussed as well as the limited circumstances where statute requires a therapist to report or warn. Please see CRPO Standard 3.1 for more information.

Our clinic uses the “Jane” Canadian designed practice management system for all record creation and retention. Jane is PIPEDA and HIPAA compliant and also is used for online appointments.

You are in complete control of your therapy and can stop if and when you feel that you need a break or are not seeing the progress that you expect.
