The most important part of therapy is a good therapeutic relationship between the patient and therapist. Therefore, all prospective patients receive a no-charge phone consultation prior to booking an appointment. Often after a phone consultation, a prospective patient is able to determine their comfort levels with their therapist. Consultations can be done on their own or combined with an initial session.
All of our therapists are trained and licensed with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, ensuring they meet professional standards of practice and ethics. For detailed information about each psychotherapist’s individual qualifications and experience, please visit the page dedicated to Our Team.
The therapists at Health & Happiness: Counselling and Wellness see children starting as young as 6 years of age and will continue to work with them as adults. Play therapy is planned to be added in the near future for younger patients.
While patients are often referred by a psychologist or family doctor, referrals are not required. A formal assessment or diagnosis is also not required prior to starting treatment. Just call and book a free assessment!
Registered Psychotherapist coverage is becoming more common in benefits packages. Please check with your insurance company for your specific details. It is important to keep in mind that even when there is coverage, it will often not cover the full treatment required regardless of the type of mental health professional that you work with. As you will receive a receipt with your therapist’s license number on it, treatment will likely qualify as a medical expense for tax return purposes.
As members of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, our therapists’ services are considered an eligible service under the OAP Core Clinical Services. You would submit the paid receipt that is provided and then submit an expense form to the OAP. You will need to be aware of your billing cycle ends to ensure that sessions and your billing cycle are in sync if you are to use your OAP funding.
As long as it aids the therapeutic process, then absolutely! Sitting and talking works well for some, but others may be more visual or prefer tactile engagement. Each of our therapy rooms is equipped with a wall-mounted 4K smart TV and a whiteboard, which are frequently utilized during sessions. We also have access to many other therapeutic tools onsite to support diverse learning and communication styles.
Therapy can work when a person has decided that they want to feel different. When a child or teen is unable to express their goals, a therapist can help them determine what happiness means for them.
Therapy is most successful when the patient is motivated for change, and we are here to help.
Everybody’s therapeutic experience is unique. Like most things in life, in order to succeed you will have to work hard…and the potential results are life-changing! Click here to hear directly from Kevin on this important topic.
